THE INN OF THE SECOND CHANCE
Bitter to live in times like these. While God declines beyond the seas. Instead, man, king or peasantry, raises his gross authority. When he thinks God has gone away, man takes up his sword to slay. His brother; we can hear death’s door. It shadows the hovels of the poor. Like the old songs they left behind, we hung our harps in the willows again. Ballads of boys blow on the wind, their blood is mingled with the rain.
Story inspired by this poem by Hedd Wynn, a Welsh poet.
Yr Ysgwrn is a 19th-century Welsh farmhouse located near Trawsfynydd in Gwynedd, Wales. It is best known as the former home of poet Hedd Wyn (Ellis Humphrey Evans), whose death in the First World War and posthumous 1917 National Eisteddfod victory made him a national symbol of loss and remembrance in Wales.
